In the very first month of 2026, ICE’s brutal enforcement actions in Minnesota sparked nationwide protests. The outrage and anxiety surrounding ICE go far beyond innocent civilians being shot: what role do immigration and ICE actually play in today’s American political landscape? Where did ICE’s current abuses come from — and where are they headed? Will the critical 2026 midterm elections be manipulated and interfered with by the Trump administration through ICE? How many more people must we watch be brutalized by ICE?

More urgently: if the lives of American citizens can be trampled upon so freely, can immigrants ever truly be safe? What can we do to protect every immigrant and keep our communities safe? What rights do we have — and what are the lines that must not be crossed? For Chinese immigrants in particular, will 2026 bring even more targeted restrictive policies?

And while protecting ourselves, what can we do to support all those living under the shadow of ICE?
